Our New Chicks (Well not Ours ...But the hens!)

We had a clucky chook sitting on eggs, as we have roosters there was the possibility that they were fertilized but when we tested them we didn't see anything inside them so we left the mother hen to sit on the eggs not knowing if they were fertilized or not at the beginning of the time she was sitting she would come out when I fed the chooks but as time went on she started not coming out and not long after the eggs hatched(I on morning went out and there were the chicks!)they were hard to see though because she was under the play house where all the rubbish that we need to take to the dump was but we managed to see them and a few days ago she started taking the chicks out and now they are really big and hard to catch!( they grow up real fast!)

A walk in the sun

Today we started our new focus on the trees around us. I had it in my head to go and look at the beautiful (if not some what decapitated!) oak growing in our garden, but the learners had much better ideas! they descovered a lemon tree in various stages of fruit production. Lots of discussion and photo taking took place....even if some of it was slightly off topic (whos turn it was it to take the next pic anyway?).

The Sweet smelling blossom

Do you see the beginnings of the lemons...these ones still have the stigma attached!

Baby Lemons - the size of a large marble

Chuckles was amazed at how the lemons were camouflaged, it wasn’t until you looked closely that you realised just how heavily laden the tree was!

The learners were still keen to go see the oak.

Bird watching and sketching

This new blog

Well I have oficially given into the blogging buzz...I had told myself it was silly starting a blog as I seriously have a lack of time to do what needs to be done as it is, nor could I see the real need behind these things. BUT now I have a need and that is to record our nature walks and to give others a window into our world of home education (well not all - just this part). In the hope that it will aid in motivating my precious learners to want to show of their amazing discoveries!
I am hoping that as we start to really get into our nature walks and journals we might even inspire others to join us on the journey the same way we were inspired by Barbs online nature study blog http://handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/
So come join us...even if its just from the comfort of your arm chair!
